Door Lock Cylinder Replacement
If you lost your car keys, or suspect someone else has it, it's a good idea to replace your door lock cylinders as soon as you can. This will ensure that you're the only one who can unlock your car and keep thieves from entering. It isn't always easy to replace a car door lock cylinder, since it typically requires removing the door's interior. This isn't something that the majority of people would want to attempt by themselves, as it can be very dangerous when done incorrectly.
The lock cylinder must be removed from the handle first. To do this, find the screw on the outside of the lock cylinder housing (usually located in the upper right-hand corner). It may be hidden under certain plastic pieces or barely visible. If you can't locate it, remove any trim panels that block your view. Make use of a pick, an Awl, or a small screwdriver to let the tab on the lock cylinder. Then, pull the cylinder out of the housing.
After you have removed the cylinder, you will need to do a few things to prepare it for its use. The keyway should be cleaned of grease and dirt and the cylinder needs to be lubricated to prevent it from squeezing into the lock. This can be accomplished by using brake cleaner. It will clean and lubricate all the components of the lock's cylinder. Once the cleaner is applied to clean the cylinder, you can use a screwdriver to remove the 10mm bolt that secures the handle to the housing of the cylinder.
Install the new cylinder, and then use your original key to operate it. It is best to purchase a cylinder with the same model and brand as your existing one. This will ensure that it fits properly and seals securely. Test the door after installation to confirm that the lock functions properly and is securely closed.
Door Lock Cylinder Repair
The lock cylinder is the component of your car's door that keys fit into to unlock or lock the door. If the key is stuck inside the lock or you have difficulty turning it, this could be a sign that the cylinder for your door needs to be replaced.
It's usually near the door handle, although some cars have them hidden behind an aluminum piece. Next, take the key and place it in the lock to see if the tumblers/pins are moving freely or getting stuck. If you feel or hear clicking or a ringing sound, or if the cylinder is seized and needs to be replaced, it's best to replace it.
You can purchase new cylinders for your car at any auto parts store however, you'll need be aware of the model and make of your car before you go shopping. You can apply the graphite to the key by squeezing it out of a tube or dusting it onto an extra key. Then insert the key and press it several times to get the graphite into the mechanism. If this doesn't help you, take off the doorknob, and then check the spindle. It may be worn out.
The process for removing a door handle or panel differs based on the vehicle, but it is generally the same. After you have removed the panel, locate all of the set screws that secure the lock cylinder. They are located on the inside of the handle or in the middle of the panel depending on the model. Remove the screws and carefully align the cylinder with the keyway. It is possible to damage the components if tightening too tightly the screws.
Door Lock Replacement

Once the plates are in place, hand-thread the screws through the holes to hold the plates together. If the plate doesn't have screw holes then you can simply slide it over the latch.
When putting the lock back together, make sure not to reuse the old screws (unless you have the same color). Use the screws included in your new lock kit instead. If you don't have the proper size of screws, go to your hardware or home improvement store to purchase screws that be compatible with the rest of your new door lock's hardware.
Be sure that your new latch plates and deadbolt are the same size as the original ones, and that they are aligned over the latch hole on the door jamb. Once all the parts are in place and tightened, tighten the screws. Now you can check the latch and deadbolt using your key. If the key won't turn you can call locksmith.
